![]() ![]() Tibetan Buddhism evolved as a form of Mahāyāna Buddhism stemming from the latest stages of Indian Buddhism (which included many Vajrayāna elements). Smaller groups of practitioners can be found in Central Asia, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, and some regions of Russia, such as Tuva, Buryatia, and Kalmykia. It also has a sizable number of adherents in the areas surrounding the Himalayas, including the Indian regions of Ladakh, Sikkim, and Arunachal Pradesh, as well as Bhutan and Nepal. Yet time and time again, the human body in communication with some higher force knows exactly when it’s time to let go and move on to the next phase of life.Tibetan Buddhism is a form of Buddhism practiced in Tibet and Mongolia. How it knows when it’s been nine months is beyond me. A great example of this is the birth of a baby. We must not forget that there was a time where there were no clocks or watches available, yet somehow man found a way to survive and thrive on this planet. The realization that this is no way to live has helped me to understand that time is a concept created by man to help him with organizing his life, but not to control him. And I was forever trying to unwind myself from the day. I also found myself sitting there waiting for something to happen or thinking that there is such a thing as the perfect time to start something new. Until a few years ago I found myself waiting for this or that time to do something or thinking that it’s not time yet, or I don’t have the time, or wishing that I had more time, etc. ![]() Needless to say, after 23 years of service where I have seen the positive effects of keeping track of every minute, my personal life has been effected by these concepts. Indeed, FedEx lives and dies with with each passing second and is therefore, at the mercy of the setting and rising of the sun. The question is whether it is possible to imagine an independent time which is not related to any particulars, any object that goes through change. If there is no process of change, then one cannot conceive of time in the first place. Time can be spoken of only in relation to phenomena susceptible to change, which because they are susceptible to change are transitory and impermanent. I feel there is a difference between time and the phenomena on which time is projected. There are several different explanations and theories about time there is no one explanation in Buddhism. The Dalai Lama : This business of time is a difficult subject. Time is understood or conceived only in relation to a phenomenon or a process.ĭaniel Goleman: Yet the passage of time seems very concrete-the past, the present, aging. Apart from that thing it is difficult to pinpoint-to see time. It depends on some physical basis, some specific thing. Time itself, I think, is something quite weak. His Holiness the Dalai Lama: In Buddhism, the concept of linear time, of time as a kind of container, is not accepted. Daniel Goleman: What is the Buddhist understanding of Time? How can we relate our sense of the process of time to our experience of the present moment? ![]()
